The monoclonal gammopathy lab tool

Every day counts when it comes to myeloma, an incurable blood cancer. With a median diagnostic interval of 163 days in the UK, patients face unnecessary delays that impact their survival rates and quality of life. Laboratories play a vital role in the diagnostic pathway and communication among healthcare professionals (HCPs). However, recent

UK surveys show variations in myeloma testing practices and a desire from laboratories for guidance on best practice.

To address this, my colleagues and I at the charity Myeloma UK collaborated with NHS HCPs to develop the Monoclonal Gammopathy Lab Tool. In this article, I will outline the key recommendations and explore how the tool can enhance lab practice to improve the timely and accurate diagnosis of myeloma.
